Salon Shiloh’s apprenticeship program is designed for motivated emerging stylists who want to strengthen their skills, gain hands-on experience, and discover where their passion can take them.
After years of teaching and working as a platform artist, owner Tracy Kucia Podesta created a mentorship program that gives apprentices the opportunity to develop their craft with a focus on cutting, color, or both.
Our program meets twice each week and combines education, hands-on learning, mentorship, and practical experience in a working Chicago salon.
What You’ll Learn
Shampooing & Conditioning
Learn professional shampooing and conditioning techniques, including how to select appropriate products for different hair types and needs.
Cutting
Develop strong foundational and advanced cutting techniques while working with a variety of hair types and textures.
Client Consultations
Learn how to conduct thoughtful consultations, understand client goals and concerns, and recommend personalized services.
Styling
Build confidence in blow-drying, curling, straightening, upstyles, and styling techniques for different hair lengths and textures.
Color Application & Glazes
Develop your knowledge of professional hair color, including color theory, application, foils, balayage, and glazing techniques.
Grow Behind the Chair
Our goal is to help apprentices build the technical skills, confidence, and client experience needed to grow into successful stylists and colorists.
